Faryab rugs take their name from one of the provinces of northern Afghanistan which constitutes the homeland of the Turkmen, who are the primary weavers of these rugs. Faryabs are Persian knotted and medium fine, at around 150 knots per square inch. Faryab designs are an eclectic combination of tribal village designs from the Caucasus, Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey and Morocco, Mamluk designs from Egypt as well as purely contemporary designs. These rugs are all made with vegetable dyes and most of them are richly colored.
